Prioritize fulfilment decisions
The order number, destination, product name, variant, SKU and quantity should be easy to scan. The hierarchy should help a packer confirm the correct item without reading the entire page.
Use whitespace deliberately. Dense borders and decorative blocks compete with the fields that prevent packing errors.
Separate the packing slip from the invoice
A packing slip usually does not need prices, tax calculations or payment details. Removing those fields makes the document safer for gifts and keeps the focus on what is physically included.
That does not mean it should look generic. The logo, store identity, typography and service message can remain consistent with the invoice while the information model changes.
Handle partial fulfilment honestly
Test orders with multiple quantities and partial fulfilment. The document should make it clear what is being packed now rather than implying every item in the original order is inside the parcel.
If your workflow requires an internal picking document, keep it separate. A picking worksheet can contain checkboxes and internal cues that do not belong in the customer’s package.
Run a parcel-ready print check
Confirm that the packing slip prints at the intended paper size, fits the envelope or pouch used by the operation and remains readable on the actual office printer.
Use a synthetic order with long product and variant names. A reliable packing slip is tested against the awkward orders, not only the easy ones.
Order Printer install and print checklist
Protect the current setup, prepare a representative test order and verify the physical output before release.

Practical answers.
Should a Shopify packing slip show prices?
Usually no. Packing slips focus on the items included in the shipment. Price-free output also makes them more suitable for gift orders.
Is a packing slip the same as a picking list?
No. A packing slip travels with the parcel, while a picking worksheet is an internal document used to collect and verify items.
