Remove every price-related field deliberately
A gift receipt should omit line-item prices, discounts, subtotal, shipping, tax, payment details and the final total. Do not assume that hiding one total removes every commercial value from the document.
Review item properties and notes as well. Custom fields can contain information that belongs to the purchaser rather than the gift recipient.
Keep enough information for practical support
Include a recognizable order reference and the product name, variant and quantity. Those fields help the recipient and the merchant identify what was received without exposing payment information.
Return instructions should be concise and consistent with the merchant's current policy. Avoid promising eligibility, timelines or outcomes that the published policy does not support.
Use brand tone without overcrowding the page
A short service message, restrained logo treatment and the same typography used across other documents create continuity. The message should feel appropriate whether the giver adds a personal note or not.
Whitespace is useful on a gift receipt. It separates the product information from the support instructions and prevents the document from feeling like a reduced invoice.
Test the receipt as a separate customer document
Preview orders with multiple products, long variants and item quantities. Confirm that no price or payment detail appears anywhere, including footers and secondary tables.
Print the receipt at the real paper size and check that the order reference remains legible without drawing attention away from the gift message.
